ITeC’s Certificate III in Screen and Media course gives students a hands-on introduction to filmmaking and digital content creation. Covering all stages of production—pre-production, production, and post-productio. This course is ideal if you’re looking to build skills for a career in media and content creation within the entertainment industry.

With a strong focus on industry-relevant skills, this qualification prepares you for assistant roles in screen, media, and entertainment sectors, including film and television, radio, interactive digital media, lighting and sound, and technical broadcasting. The course includes essential training in video editing, making it perfect for those interested in social media courses and screen and media courses that align with today’s digital landscape.

Participants will learn in ITeC’s Digital Media Suite, Theatre, outdoor courtyard and in our state-of-the-art audio Recording Studio. 
Learn how to use a range of industry professional software and equipment including video cameras, lighting, audio gear and more.

Pre Production

Pre production includes Screenplay writing using industry standard formatting of your script, creating shot lists, shooting schedules, inventory lists, release forms and more. These are required in order to plan and organise shoots for the production stage to run smoothly and are an essential phase in film and media production.

Production

The production stage is when you will learn to use camera fundamentals such as focus, exposure, iso, frame composition, lenses, filters and various other camera settings and techniques, lighting setups including three point lighting, using reflectors, diffusion and more. You will also learn how to use audio field recorders, boom microphones, setting recording levels and more in order to capture sound for your screen and media projects.

Post Production

The post production stage consists of learning how to bring all of your footage and assets together in order to create a final product. This includes organisation of media assets, ingestion of footage and video editing in order to export a final product. You will also learn about delivery platforms, screen formats and codecs, naming conventions and more.

Entry Requirements

• Good internet knowledge and ready access to the internet.
• Able to use a computer and have sound digital literacy skills.
• Reading and writing skills to answer assessment questions.
• Preferably has own computer/device compatible to course requirements.

Career Opportunities

The job roles may include editing assistant, assistant content creator, assistant sound technician, assistant audio visual technician, assistant radio producer, podcast producer, community radio producer, community radio presenter, junior animator, camera assistant and technical production assistant. Individuals usually work under direction, using some discretion and judgement, and may provide technical advice and support to a team.

I received my Screen and Media Cert III through ITeC in 2018. As a result, I was able to get into a Cinematography position with a 2 million dollar Australian Feature Film, Public Eye (2021). Without ITeC, I wouldn’t have had the skills to get that job.
