Take the next step in your career with the BSB40520 – Certificate IV in Leadership and Management at ITeC Academy. Delivered both online and on campus with flexible, after-hours classes, this leadership and management qualification is designed to work around your personal and professional commitments—making it easier than ever to build the leadership skills you need for real career progression.

This course is ideal for current team members ready to transition into a leadership role or existing supervisors who want to refine and formalise their managerial skills. Whether you’re working in aged care, community services, trades, hospitality, or administration, this qualification gives you the tools to effectively lead, manage people and tasks, and contribute to the broader goals of your organisation.

Build the Skills and Knowledge Required to Lead with Impact

The Certificate IV in Leadership and Management provides practical training in key areas that every team leader or manager needs. You’ll learn how to plan and implement operational plans, identify and respond to risks using established risk management processes, and align your team’s efforts to the goals of your organisation.

You’ll also gain critical insight into adjusting operational performance, supporting team cohesion, and identifying strategies to improve personal work performance and team output. From day one, this course focuses on the skills and knowledge required to succeed in dynamic team environments.

Communication, Relationships, and Workplace Culture

Strong leadership begins with strong communication. This course teaches you how to apply communication strategies in diverse work environments, ensuring that you can lead with clarity, resolve conflict professionally, and keep your team on track. You’ll discover how to maintain effective work relationships, foster trust, and develop a leadership style that supports long-term success.

You’ll explore how to:

  • Build and maintain business relationships that support your team and goals
  • Facilitate effective workplace relationships through clear communication and active listening
  • Implement strategies that encourage team cohesion and collaboration
  • Apply emotional intelligence in day-to-day leadership decisions

Whether you’re managing a small team or coordinating multiple work tasks across departments, your ability to influence others and maintain a healthy work environment is critical. The Certificate IV in Leadership and Management will give you the tools to create a positive team culture and a motivated workforce.

Business Operational Plans and Business Risk Management Processes

Leadership also involves planning for success. You’ll learn how to implement operational plans that ensure your team is aligned with the wider business strategy and how to monitor and report on operational performance using practical techniques.

As part of this, you’ll be introduced to business risk management processes, learning how to identify business risks, minimise their impact, and support your organisation’s work health and safety standards. With a firm grasp of planning and risk, you’ll be ready to take ownership of acquiring resources, managing change, and keeping projects on time and within scope.

Manage Personal Work Priorities and Critical Thinking

Good leaders don’t just lead others—they manage themselves with discipline and foresight. In this course, you’ll learn to evaluate your personal work priorities, structure personal and work schedules, and reflect on performance to improve over time.

You’ll also develop critical thinking skills that allow you to analyse complex situations, consider multiple perspectives, and make sound decisions under pressure. These skills are essential when navigating challenges, balancing workloads, or solving problems within your team or department.

I recently completed the Team Leader Skillset course offered by ITeC, which consisted of three units from the Leadership and Management Certificate IV qualification. The course was delivered online and included a Zoom class session once a week.
The trainer, Virginia Wren, was excellent. She possessed great knowledge with real life work experience relating to the learning material and did a fantastic job of keeping all the participants involved in the class discussions with her friendly, encouraging style.
The content was divided into performance and knowledge tasks and required a time commitment but with Virginia’s guidance and support I found the tasks manageable and rewarding. The online delivery format worked well for me as I was working from home at the time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I learnt a lot by completing the Team Leader Skillset course and I look forward to completing more training with ITeC in the future. I would not hesitate to recommend ITeC as a quality training provider.

Leadership and Management Certificate IV Student

I have really enjoyed the cert iv in Leadership and management I recently completed. At first, I was overwhelmed but once Virginia was able to help me identify what I complete at work, and how the course fits in with this, I found it much more easier to understand and complete. Using certain terminologies and understanding why certain practices are done really helped me in my work and for future positions. My confidence has grown, and I can honestly say it was due to this course.
