An introduction to trades within the BUILDING INDUSTRY

Practical course with underpinning theory delivered at ITeC’s Construction Hub.

This course provides skills training in a wide range of building trades.
>> CARPENTRY
>> TILING (includes basic waterproofing)
>> JOINERY
>> LEVELLING

Foundation skills incorporated into this course are working effectively while planning and preparing the projects, applying and following safety requirements, measuring, calculating and levelling the tasks and handling materials for each task.

What will I learn throughout the course?

Safety

Learn and apply Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and regulations including:
• Identifying hazards
• Assessing and controlling risks
• Following Safe Operating Procedures (SOPS) for tools and equipment.
• Correctly fitting and using a range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Tools, equipment and materials

Learn the correct use, handling and safe operating procedures of various trade tools and their required maintenance including:
• Compound mitre saw
• Electric sanders
• Leveling tools
• Tiling tools
• Chisels, bevels and squares

Projects

The projects will allow the student to plan and organise their tasks including measuring, calculating material requirements and cutting materials, using a range of hand power tools and equipment. Time management to keep their project on track and to a standard required within the building industry.
